Past Events
Tuesday December 14th: Carol concert at Highbury Grove School involving the local primary schools and students from Highbury Grove.
Thursday December 9th at 5pm: Music First Primary "Hub" informal concert at Highbury Grove School. Parents/Carers of children who attend the hub are warmly invited to attend.
Starting soon (date tbc): adult session as part of the Thursday Hub. Parents of children who attend the hub are welcome to attend from 5 until 5.30pm at Highbury Grove School to receive free tuition on the violin.
Just started, Thursdays 4 to 5pm: New Music First Chamber Orchestra for more advanced musicians of primary school age (Grades 3 to 6 standard). There are currently 20 members of this orchestra but we would welcome new applications on all orchestral instruments (string, woodwind, brass and percussion). For more information please email bob.pepper@musicfirst.org.uk or come to Highbury Grove School at 4pm on a Thursday.
We have confirmation of an exciting joint project with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment which will involve Music First students in workshops and concerts. In the Summer Term of 2011 Music First will take part in a programme called "Music For a King"
Wednesday October 13th: A workshop was held at the Festival Hall, Southbank with students from Highbury Grove and the Music First Hub with the Teresa Carreno Orchestra from El Sistema, Venezuela (to see photos click here).
Tuesday July 15th: Primary Hub Concert.
Tuesday July 13th: Music First musicians were invited to participate in a workshop event for strings hosted and arranged by the Royal Academy of Music.
June: the choir at Highbury Quadrant performed as part of the Pure Voices concert in the Union Chapel.
At the beginning of the Summer term the Thursday Music School started for 60 local primary school children.
Wednesday 12th May, 5.30pm: school concert at Highbury Grove, included an attempt at the first ever Highbury Grove School piano concerto. All welcomed.
Saturday 24th April at 1pm: Tyler Rix (of Dame Alice Owen's School) played his saxophone at Trafalgar Square for the Mayor of London 's Rhythm of London with his Jazz Trio:
Daniel Marks (also 17) on drums (of J.F.S. School and Junior Guildhall) Jonathan Ang (22) on piano (of Guildhall School of Music and Drama) Alex Crawford (18) on guitar (of Dame Alice Owen's School)

Thursday 18th March, 3.30-5.30pm: "Taster Sessions" for the new Thursday Primary Music School at Highbury Grove School.
Monday 8th March: a selection of Music First students took part in a performance workshop at the opening of the New Assembly Rooms on Upper Street in Islington. For more information about the Assembly Rooms and the events that took place from 5th-13th March please click on the embedded links.
Thursday 11th February: at The Union Chapel, Upper Street Islington. Many groups from The Music First @ Islington project came together to perform including string players and choirs from the primary schools, choirs orchestras and bands from the participating secondary schools (to see photos click here).
Thursday 3rd December: joint concert between Music First @ Highbury Grove Secondary School and Music First @ Highbury Quadrant Primary School. Musicians from Highbury Grove performed with the newly formed choirs from Years 2 and 5 at Highbury Quadrant School.
Thursday 26th November: an informal workshop presentation of the terms’ work from the Music First @ Islington after school session which involved students from several secondary schools within the community making up a choir, Jazz Band and String Orchestra.

Monday 19th October: The newly formed Music First @ Highbury Grove String Quartet visited the US Embassy, Regents Park to attend a concert and lecture by the Harlem String Quartet.
4th May 2009 - ‘Up On The One’A jazz inspired evening featuring two world premieres for soloists, voices and orchestra which marked the culmination of eight months' collaboration between Dame Alice Owen's School, primary and secondary schools in the London Borough of Islington and Aldenham School, supported by the Worshipful Company of Brewers as Trustees of the Dame Alice Owen Foundation 1613.
